brevity of description, we have in so doing studiously kept in view the judicious advice of the author of "Hudibras," who, for apparently the special instruction of guide-book writers, once truthfully declared :—
"As 'tis a greater mystery in the art
Of painting to foreshorten any part
Than draw it out, so 'tis in books the chief
Of all perfections to be plain and brief."
