The EDITORS of the present Edition of the "DOCTRINES OF FRIENDS," having received the kind consent and approbation of the AUTHOR to reprint his Work in this Country, as appears on the Title Page, feel themselves called upon to state, that, in the course of printing the same, two or three small omissions have been made, together with a few verbal alterations; none of which, however, in the least affect the doctrinal part, or the general scope, of the work.

To our own Society generally, and particularly to its younger Members, they are desirous of closely recommending the Work. And as it is probable this Edition will find its way into the hands of many of other religious denominations, who may entertain imperfect, and perhaps incorrect, views of our Doctrines, the EDITORS are desirous of uniting with the AUTHOR in soliciting from such “a calm and candid perusal."

The estimation in which the Work is held by the Society, has been sufficiently evinced, by a prompt demand for an Edition amounting to upwards of SEVEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED COPIES; notwithstanding several smaller Editions had been previously printed and issued in this Country.

It may be also proper to add, that the Work has been examined and approved by Committees of the YEARLY MEETINGS of OHIO, and NEW ENGLAND, and has had an extensive circulatim throughout the compass of all the Yearly Meetings of Friends on the American Continent.
