* By an act passed in 1875 (Chap. 80), the City Council of Boston were authorized to unite the Cochituate and Mystic Water Boards under one Board, to be called the "Boston Water Board," to consist of three members, to be appointed by the Mayor, and confirmed by the City Council, and who should be paid for their services. And an ordinance to establish "The Boston Water Board" was passed March 22, 1876. (City Doc. No. 28.)

But no appointments had been made under said ordinance at the date of the publication of this register.
