Go'd our Saviour; 4 To Ti'tus, mine' own son' af'ter the com'mon fa'ith: Gra'ce, mer'cy, 'and' peace, from Go'd the Father, and the Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st our Saviour. 5 For this cause left I thee in Cre'te, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wan'ting, and orda'in el'ders in every city, as I had appointed thee. 6 If an'y be bla'meless, the husband of on'e wi'fe, hav'ing faithful children, not accu'sed of ri'ot, or unruly. 7 For a bish'op must be bla'meless, as the steward of Go'd; not self-willed, not' soon an'gry, not' giv'en to wi'nẹ, no' stri’ker, not' given to filthy lu'cre; 8 But a lov'er of hospitality, a lover of good' men, so'ber, just', ho'ly, tem'perate; 9 Ho'lding fast' the faithful word' as he hath been taught, that he may be a'ble by sound' doc'trine bo'th to exho'rt and to convinc'e the gainsa'yers. 10 Fo'r there are man'y unruly and va'in ta'lkers and deceivers, spec'ially the'y of the circumcision: i Whose mou'ths must be stopped; who subvert' whole hou'ses, te'aching things which they ought not', for filthy lu'cre's sake. 12 On'e of themselves, 'e'ven' a proph'et of their o'wn, said, The Cre'tians are' a'lway li'ars, e'vil be'asts, slow bellies. 13 This' wit'ness is tru'e wherefore rebu'ke them sharply, that they may be sound' in the faith; 14 Not' giv'ing he'ed to Jewish fa'bles, and command'ments of men', that turn' from the tru'th. 15 Un'to the pu're a'll things are' pu're but un'to them' that are defiled and unbelie'ving is nothing pu're; but e'ven their mind and con'science is defi'led. 16 They profess that they kno'w Go'd; but in work's they deny 'him,' be'ing abom'inable, and disobe'dient, and un'to every good' work rep'robate.

CHAP. II.1 But speak thou' the things which becom'e sound' doc'trine: 2 That the a'ged men be so'ber, gra've, tem'perate, sound' in fa'ith, in charity, in pa'tience. 3 The a'ged wom'en likewise, that they be in behaviour as becom'eth holiness, not' false accu'sers, not given to much wi'ne, teachers of good things; That they may te'ach the young wom'en to be so'ber, to lov'e their hus'bands, to lov'e their children; 5 To be' discre'et, cha'ste, ke'epers at ho'me, good', obe'dient to their o'wn hus'bands, that the word of Go'd be not blasphe'med. 6 Young men' likewise exho'rt to be so'ber-mi'nded. 7 In a'll things she'wing thyself' a pattern of good' works: in doc'trine 'she'wing' uncorrupt'ness, grav'ity, sincer'ity, 8 Sound' spe'ech, that

can'not be condem'ned; that he that is of the contrary part may be asha'med, having no e'vil thing to sa'y of you. 'Exho'rt' servants to be obe'dient un'to their o'wn mas'ters, and' to please them' well' in a'll things;' not an'swering again'; 10 Not purloi'ning, but she'wing a'll good' fidelity; that they may ado'rn the doc'trine of Go'd our Saviour in a'll things. 11 Fo'r the grace of Go'd that brin'geth salvation hath appe'ared to a'll men, 12 Teaching us, that, denying ungodliness and world'ly lust's, we should live so'berly, right'eously, and god'ly, in this pres'ent world; 13 Looking for that bless'ed ho'pe, and the glo'rious appearing of the grea't Go'd and our Saviour Je'ṣus Chri'st; 14 Who gave himself' for us', that he might rede'em us from all iniq'uity, and pu'rify un'to himself' a peculiar pe'ople, zealous of good' work's. 15 The'se things spe'ak, and exho'rt, and rebu'ke with a'll author'ity. Let no' man despi'se thee.

CHAP. III. Put' them in mind to be subject to principal'ities and powers, to obe'y magistrates, to be read'y to ev'ery good' work'; To speak e'vil of no' man, to be no bra'wlers, but' gen'tle, she'wing a'll me'ekness un'to a'll men. 3 Fo'r we ourselves also were sometimes fo'olish, disobe'dient, deceived, serving di'vers lust's and pleas'ures, living in mal'ice and en'vy, ha'teful, and' ha'ting one another. But after that the kindness and love of Go'd our Saviour to'ward man' appe'ared, 5 Not' by works of right'eousness which we' have don'e, but acco'rding to his mercy he saved us, by the wash'ing of regenera'tion, and renewing of the Holy Gho'st; Which he shed' on us abun'dantly through Jesus Chri'st our Sa'viour; 7 That, being justified by his gra'ce, we should be made he'irs acco'rding to the ho'pe of eternal life. 8 This is a fa'ithful sa'ying, and the'se things I will that thou affirm' con'stantly, that they which have belie'ved in Go'd might be ca'reful to maintain good' work's: the'se things are good' and profitable un'to men'. 9 But avoi'd fo'olish ques'tions, and genealogies, and conten'tions, and strivings about' the law; for they are unprofitable and va'in. 10 Ạ mạn that is an her'etick, af'ter the first' and sec'ond admonition, reject'; Knowing that he' that is such' is subverted, and sin'neth, be'ing condem'ned of himself'. 12 When I shall send Ar'temas un'to thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to com'e un'to me to Nicop'olis; fo'r I have deter'mined the're

to win'ter. 13 Bring Ze'nas the la'wyer and Apollos on their journey dil'igently, that nothing be wan'ting un'to them. 14 And let ours also learn to maintain good' work's for necessary u'ses, that they be not unfruitful. that are with' me salu'te the'e. Gre'et them that love us in the faith. Gra'ce 'be' with' you all. A'men'.

1 PAUL, a pris'oner of Je'sus Chri'st, and Tim'othy ‘our' broth'er, un'to Phile'mon our dearly belov'ed, and fellowla'bourer, 2 And to our' belov'ed Apphi'a, and Archip'pus our fellow-so'ldier, and to the church' in thy hous'e: 3 Grace to you, and pe'ace, from Go'd our Father, and the Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st. I thank' my Go'd, ma'king men'tion of thee always in my prayers, 5 He'aring of thy love and fa'ith, which thou hast to'ward the Lo'rd Je'sus, and to'ward a'll saints; 6 That the communica'tion of thy faith may becom'e effec'tual, by the acknowl'edging of ev'ery good' thing which is in' you in Chri'st Je'sus. 7 Fo'r we have grea't joy and consola'tion in thy lov'e, beca'use the bow'els of the saints are refresh'ed by the'e, broth'er. & Wherefore, though I might be much bo'ld in Chri'st to enjoin' thee that which is conve'nient, 9 Yet, for lov'e's sa'ke, I rath'er beseech thee,' be'ing such an one as Pa'ul the a'ged, and now' also a pris'oner of Je'sus Chri'st. 10 I beseech thee for my son' Ones'imus, whom I have begot'ten in my bond's; 11 Which in time past' was to the'e unprof'itable, but now profitable to the'e and to me'; Whom I have sent' again' thou therefore rece'ive him' that is mine o'wn bow'els; 13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead' he might have min'istered un'to me in the bond's of the gospel. 14 But without' thy mi'nd would I do noth'ing; that thy ben'efit should not be as it were of

12

neces sity, but willingly. 15 Fo'r perhaps' he therefore departed for a se'ason, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; 16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, spec'ially to me', but how much mo'rę un'to the'e, both in the flesh', and in the Lo'rd? 17 If thou count me ther'efore a partner, rece'ive him as myself'. 18 If he hath wron'ged thee, or o'weth thee' a'ught, put that' on mi'ne account'; 19 I' Pa'ul have writ'ten it' with mine o'wn hand', I' will repa'y it :' albe'it I do not say to thee how thou o'west un'to me e'ven thine own self' besi'des. 20 Yea', broth'er, let me have joy' of thee in the of Lo'rd: refresh' my bow'els in the Lord. 21 Hav'ing con'fidence in thy obe'dience, I wro'te un'to the'e, kno'wing that thou wilt also do more than I say. 22 But witha'l prepare me also a lo'dging: for I trust' that through yo'ur prayers I shall be giv'en un'to you. 23 There salu'te thee Ep'aphras, my fellow-pris'oner in Chri'st Jesus; 24 Ma'rcus, Arista'rchus, De'mas, Lu'cas, my fellow-labourers. 25 The gra'ce of our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st 'be' with your spir'it. A'men'.

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO

THE HEBREWS.

CHAPTER I.

GO'D, who at sun'dry times, and in di'vers man'ners, spa'ke in time past' un'to the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spo'ken un'to us' by 'his' Son', whom he hath appoin'ted he'ir of a'll things, by whom also he ma'de the world's; 3 Who, be'ing the bright'ness of 'his' glory, and the express' im'age of his person, and upholding a'll things by the word of his power, when he had by himself' purg'ed our sin's, sat down' on the right' hand of the Maj'esty on high; Be'ing made so much bet'ter than the a'ngels, as he hath by inheritance obtained

a mo're ex'cellent na'me than the'y. 5 Fo'r un'to which' of the angels said' he at an'y time, Thou' art my Son', this' day have I begot'ten the'e? And again', I' will be to him' a Father, and he' shall be to me' a Son'? 6 And again', when he bringeth in' the first-begot'ten in'to the world', he saith, And let all the angels of Go'd wor'ship him. 7 And of the a'ngels he saith, Who ma'keth his angels spirits, and his ministers a fla'me of fi'rę. 8 But un'to the Son' 'he sa'ith,' Thy' throne, O Go'd, 'is' for ev'er and ev'er; a sceptre of righteousness 'is' the scep'tre of thy' kin'gdom. 9 Thou hast loved right'eousness, and ha'ted iniquity; therefore Go'd, 'e'ven' thy' Go'd, hath anointed thee with the oil' of glad'ness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou', Lo'rd, in the begin'ning hast la'id the foundation of the earth'; and the heav'ens are the work's of thi'ne hands: 11 They shall per'ish, but thou' rema'inest; and the'y a'll shall wax o'ld as doth a ga'rment; 12 And as a ves'ture shalt thou fold them up', and they shall be cha'nged: but thou art the same, and thy' years shall not fa'il. 13 But to which of the angels said he at an'y time, Sit' on my right hand', until I make thine en'emies thy foot'stool? 14 Are they not all min'istering spirits, sent fo'rth to minister for them who shall be he'irs of salvation?

CHAP. II. Therefore we ought to give the more earnest he'ed to the things which we have heard', lest' at an'y time we should let them' slip'. 2 Fo'r if the word spo'ken by a'ngels was sted'fast, and ev'ery transgress'ion and disobe'dience received a just rec'ompence of rewa'rd; 3 How shall we' esca'pe, if we neglect' so grea't salva'tion; which at the first' began' to be spo'ken by the Lord, and was confirm'ed un'to us by them that heard' 'him;' 4 Go'd also bea'ring them' wit'ness, bo'th with si'gns and won'ders, and with di'vers mir'acles, and gifts' of the Ho'ly Gho'st, according to his own will'? 5 Fo'r un'to the a'ngels hath he not put in subjec'tion the world to com'e, whereof' we speak. 6 But one in a certain pla'ce tes'tified, sa'ying, What' is man', that thou art mi'ndful of him? or the son' of man, that thou vis'itest him? 7 Thou ma'dest him a little lower than the a'ngels; thou crown'edst him with glo'ry and hon'our, and didst set' him o'ver the work's of thy hand's: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection un'der his feet. Fo'r in that he put a'll in subjec'tion un'der him, he left nothing that is not' put un'der him.
