'is' the grea't command'ment in the law? 37 Je'sus said un'to him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy Go'd with all thy hea'rt, and with all thy so'ul, and with a'll thy mind. 38 This is the first and grea't command'ment. 39 And the second is like un'to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself'. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the proph'ets.

41 While the Pharisees were gathered togeth'er, Je'sus asked them, 42 Sa'ying, What think ye of Chri'st? whose son is he? They say unto him, "The son' of Da'vid. 43 He saith unto them, How then doth Da'vid in spirit call him Lo'rd, sa'ying, 44 The Lo'rd said un'to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine en'emies thy foot'stool? 45 If David then call him Lo'rd, how is he his son? 46 And no man was able to an'swer him a word; neither durst an'y 'man' from that day fo'rth ask him any more 'ques'tions.'

CHAP. XXIII. Then spake Je'sus to the multitude, and to his disci'ples, 2 Sa'ying, The scribes and the Phar'isees sit in Mo'ses' se'at: 3 A'll therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that' observe and do; but do not ye af'ter their works for they say and do not. 4 For they bind heav'y burdens, and grievous to be bo'rne, and lay 'them' on men's sho'ulders; but they themselves' will not mo've them with one of their fin'gers. 5 But all their works they do for to be se'en of men: they make broad their phylac'teries, and enlarge the bo'rders of their ga'rments, 6 And love the uppermost ro'oms at feasts, and the chie'f seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the ma'rkets, and to be called of men, Rab'bi, Rab'bi. 8 But be not ye called Rab'bi: for one is your Mas'ter, 'e'ven' Chri'st; and all ye are breth'ren. 9 And ca'll no 'man' your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heav'en. 10 Neither be ye called mas'ters: for one is your Master, 'e'ven' Chri'st. 11 But he that is grea'test amon'g you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself' shall be aba'sed; and he that shall hum'ble himself' shall be exalted.

13 But woe un'to you, scri'bes and Pharisees, hyp'ocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against' men: for ye ne'ither go in yourselves,' ne'ither suf'fer ye them that are en'tering to go in. 14 Woe un'to you, scribes and Phar'isees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' hou'ses, and for a

pretenç'e make long pra'yer: ther'efore ye shall receive the greater damna'tion. 15 Woe un'to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye com'pass sea and land to makę one pros'elyte; and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. 16 Woe un'to you, "ye' bli'nd gui'des! which say, Whosoever shall swea'r by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swea'r by the gold of the temple, he is a debt'or. 17Ye' fo’ols, and blind for wheth'er is grea'ter the gold, or the temple that sanc'tifieth the go'ld? 18 And, whosoever shall swea'r by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoev'er swea'reth by the gift that is upon' it, he is guilty. 19 Ye' fo'ols, and blind for wheth'er is' grea'ter, the gift, or the altar that sanc'tifieth the gift? 20 Wh'oso therefore shall swea'r by the altar, swea'reth by it, and by all things thereon'. 21 And wh'oso shall swea'r by the temple, swea'reth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein'. 22 And he that shall swea'r by heaven, swea'reth by the throne of Go'd, and by him that sit'teth thereon'. 23 Woe un'to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay ti'the of mint, and an'ise, and cum'min, and have omit'ted the weightier 'mat'ters' of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these o'ught ye to have done, and not to leave the oth'er un'done. 24 Ye' bli'nd gui'des, which stra'in at a gnat, and swallow a cam'el. 25 Woe un'to you, scribes and Pharisees, hyp'ocrites! for ye make cle'an the out'side of the cup and of the platter, but within' they are full of exto'rtion and excess'. 26 Thou' bli'nd Pharisee, cleanse first that which is' within' the cup and plat'ter, that the out'side of them may be clean a'lso. 27 Woe un'to you, scri'bes and Pharisees, hyp'ocrites! for ye are like un'to whi'ted sep'ulchres, which inde'ed appe'ar beautiful out'ward, but are within' full of dead 'men's' bo'nes, and of all uncle'anness. 28 Even so ye also out'wardly appe'ar right'eous un'to men, but within' ye are full of hypoc'risy and iniq'uity. 29 Woe un'to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sep'ulchres of the right'eous, 30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fa'thers, we would' not have been parta'kers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31 Wherefore ye be wit'nesses un'to yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the proph'ets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fa'thers. 33Ye' serpents, ‘ye' genera'tion of vi'pers, how can ye esca'pe the damna'tion of hell?

34 Wherefore, behold, I send un'to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and 'some' of them ye shall kill and cru'cify; and 'some' of them shall ye scourge in your syn'agogues, and per'secute them' from city to cit'y: 35 That upon' you may come all the right'eous blood shed upon' the earth, from the blood of right'eous A'bel un'to the blood of Zachari'as, son of Barachi'as, whom je slew betwe'en the tem'ple and the altar. 36 Verily I say un'to you, A'll these things shall come upon' this generation. 37 O Jerusalem, Jeru'salem, thou' that killest the prophets, and sto'nest them which are sent un'to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children togeth'er, e'ven as a hen gath'ereth her chick'ens un'der 'her' wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left un'to you des'olate. 39 For I say un'to you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Bles'sed 'is' he that com'eth in the name of the Lo'rd.

CHAP. XXIV. And Je'sus went out and departed from the temple and his disci'ples came to him,' for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Je'sus said un'to them, See ye not all these things? Ver'ily I say un'to you, There shall not be left here one stone upon' another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon' the mount of Olives, the disci'ples came un'to him privately, sa'ying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be' the sign' of thy com'ing, and of the end of the world? And Je'sus an'swered and said un'to them, Take he'ed that no man dece'ive you: 5 For man'y shall come in my name, sa'ying, I am Christ; and shall dece'ive man'ý. 6 And ye shall he'ar of wars, and rumours of wars; see that ye be not troubled for all these things' must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For na'tion shall rise against' na'tion, and kingdom against' kingdom: and there shall be fam'ines, and pes'tilences, and earth'quakes, in di'vers places. 8 All these are' the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliv'er you up to be afflic'ted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be ha'ted of a'll na'tions for my name's sake. 10 And then shall man'y be offen'ded, and shall betra'y one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And man'y false prophets shall rise, and shall dece'ive man'y. 12 And beca'use iniq'uity shall abound', the love of man'ý shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endu're un'to the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gos'pel of the kingdom shall

be pre'ached in all the world, for a wit'ness un'to all na'tions; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomina'tion of desola'tion, spo'ken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (wh'oso re'adẹth, lẹt him understand':) 16 Then let them which be in Jude'a flee in'to the moun'tains; 17 Let him which is on the hous'etop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return' back to take his clothes. 19 And woe un'to them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the win'ter, neither on the sab'bath-day: 21 For then shall be grea't tribula'tion, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be sho'rtened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect''s sake those days shall be sho'rtened. 23 Then if any man shall say un'to you, Lo, here is' Christ, or there; belie've it' not. 24 For there shall ari'se false Christs, and false proph'ets, and shall shew grea't signs and won'ders; insomuch' that, if it were' pos'sible, they shall dece'ive the very elect'. 25 Behold, I have told you befo're. 26 Wher'efore, if they shall say un'to you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not fo'rth: beho'ld, he is in the se'cret cha'mbers; belie've 'it' not. 27 For as the light'ning com'eth out of the e'ast, and shi'neth e'ven un'to the west; so shall also the com'ing of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoev'er the ca'rcase is, there will the eagles be gathered togeth'er.

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light', and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be sha'ken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven and then shall a'll the tribes of the earth mo'urn, and they shall see the Son of man com'ing in the clouds of heaven with power and grea't glo'ry. And he shall send his a'ngels with a grea't sound of a trumpet, and they shall gath'er togeth'er his elect' from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the oth'er.

32 Now learn a parable of the fig'-tree; When his branch is yet ten'der, and put'teth fo'rth leaves, ye know that sum'mer 'is' nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is ne'ar, 'e'ven' at the doors. 34 Verily I say un'to you, This genera'tion shall not pass,

till all these things be fulfilled, 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass' awa'y.

36 But of that day and hour kno'weth no 'man,' no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father o'nly. 37 But as the days of No'e 'were,' so shall also the com'ing of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were befo're the flood they were eating and drink'ing, mar'rying and giving in marriage, until the day that No'e entered into the a'rk, 39 And knew not until' the flood came and took' them a'll away; so shall also the com'ing of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two 'wom'en shall be' gri'nding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the oth'er left.

42 Watch' therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lo'rd doth come. 43 But know this, that if the good'man of the house had known in what watch the thie'f would' come, he would have watched, and would not have suf'fered his house to be broken up. 4 Therefore be ye also read'y: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man com'eth. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lo'rd hath made ruler o'ver his household, to give them me at in due se'ason? 46 Bles'sed 'is' that servant, whom his lo'rd, when he com'eth, shall find so doing. 47 Ver'ily I say un'to you, That he shall make him ruler o'ver all his good's. 48 But and if that e'vil servant shall say in his heart, My lo'rd dela'yeth his com'ing; 49 And shall begin' to smite 'his' fel'low-ser'vants, and to eat and drink with the drunken ; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he look'eth not for him,' and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asun'der, and appoint' 'him' his po'rtion with the hypocrites: there shall be we'eping and gnash'ing of te'eth.

CHAP. XXV. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be li'kened un'to ten virgins, which took' their lamps, and went fo'rth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five 'were' fo'olish. 3 They that were' fo'olish took' their lamps, and took' no oil with them: 4 But the wise took' oil in their ves'sels with their lamps. 5 While the bri'degroom tar'ried, they all slum'bered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bri'degroom com'eth; go ye out to me'et him. 7 Then all those virgins aro'se, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the fo'olish said un'to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gonę
