The second assistants are chosen by the city council in February or March, one for each assessment district. The assessment districts for 1870 are as follows:

Dist. 2. That part of Ward 1 (East Boston) comprised in Sections 3, 4 and 5, and the islands in Boston Harbor. JOHN NOBLE, Assessor.
