Certain of the more important cases in which convictions were obtained for violation of section 162 of the Sanitary Code, relative to the issuing of false death certificates:

On the 26th of June. 1908, Samuel Stera was fined $250 by the Court of Special Sessions for violating section 162 of the Sanitary Code (practicing medicine without license).

Certain of the more important cases in which convictions were obtained for violation of sections 164 and 165 of the Sanitary Code, relative to retaining the dead body of a human being for a longer time than four days:

On March 23, 1908, Lawrence Wardenhauer, an undertaker, residing at No. 159 Onderdonk avenue, Ridgewood, Borough of Queens, was arrested for violation of the above section. He was arraigned before a Magistrate in the Second District Magistrates' Court, Borough of Queens, and held in $500 bail for Special Sessions. On April 7, 1908, the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to pay a fine of $50.

Civil Actions in Municipal Courts.

Department of Health vs. John F. Ranken.

January 11, 1908-Six actions brought against the above-named defendant, a physician practicing in the City of New York, for violation of section 133 of the Sanitary Code, for failure to report cases of contagious diseases.

January 18, 1908-Defendant paid $50 in settlement of said actions. Department of Health vs. Robert R. Mont.

February 1, 1908-Two actions brought against the said defendant, to recover a penalty of $100 for violation of section 163 of the Sanitary Code, relative to the burying of the dead body of a human being without a permit from the Department.

February 1, 1908-Four actions brought against the said defendant to recover a penalty of $200, for violation of section 165 of the Sanitary Code, in retaining the body of a human being for a longer time than the law allows.

June 18, 1908-Defendant paid a penalty of $100 in settlement of the above-mentioned actions.

Department of Health vs. Robert H. Anderson.

February 15, 1908-Action brought to recover a penalty of $50, for violation of section 133 of the Sanitary Code, relative to his failure to report a case of contagious disease.

February 25, 1908-Defendant paid the full penalty, $50, in settlement of said action.

Department of Health vs. Frank L. Tucker.

February 15, 1908—Action brought to recover a penalty of $50, for violation of section 133 of the Sanitary Code, relative to the defendant's failure to report a case of contagious disease.

March 27, 1908-Defendant paid $10, in settlement of said action. Department of Health vs. Thomas G. Sherwood.

March 30, 1908-Action brought to recover a penalty of $50, for violation of section 127 of the Sanitary Code, relative to the defendant's failure to report a case of glanders.

April 13. 1908-Defendant paid $25, in settlement of action.
