Computer Networks

Front Cover
Prentice Hall PTR, 1996 - 813 pages
This text integrates a wide variety of topics using the TCP/IP suite of protocols, starting with the physical layer, and then proceeding through the data link, network, transport, session, and presentation layers, up to the application layer. Tanenbaum emphasizes protocols and software, rather than hardware and theory, throughout. It also covers high speed networking, and mobile and cellular communications, and devotes entire chapters to ATM and the Internet. While students are not expected to have a background in computer networks or advanced mathematics, a general background in computer systems and programming is required.
