Grade heights were furnished engineers and architects for thirty-three estates.

Twenty-four plans of streets were made for sidewalk assessments on request of the Paving Division. Data was also furnished the Paving Division for sidewalk assessments on eighteen estates.

Estimates for grade, land and building damages and cost of construction were furnished the Street Commissioners on twenty-five streets.

The lines and grades of the following twenty-four streets, for which the Street Commissioners were petitioned for authority to open as private ways were examined and reported upon :

One hundred and twelve plans and profiles, representing a total length of thirteen miles, showing buildings, property owners, names, established grades, areas of land taken, or to be taken, for street widenings or relocations, public alleys, etc., were completed for the Street Laying-Out Department. Important among which may be mentioned Dorchester street, from East Eighth street to Andrew square, at South Boston; Tileston avenue and Mattapan street, at Dorchester; Brandon street, Belgrade avenue, Hyde Park avenue and Spring street, at West Roxbury, and Hunnewell avenue and Wallingford road, at Brighton. Plans have been made of eleven passageways for the purpose of laying them out as public alleys. One hundred and thirteen plans have been made for the purpose of assessing benefits occasioned by the laying out and construction of new streets. A plan of the House of Correction property at South Boston was made for the Institutions Department, which was used in connection with the sale of the same. Plans of the Granary Burying-ground on Tremont street and the Swift-street Cemetery, at East Boston, were made for the Cemetery Commission. Plans have been made for the Schoolhouse Commission of property to be taken for school purposes as follows, viz., Norman street, corner of South Margin street, new site for school-house; Prince street, addition to the Hancock School site ; North Bennet street and Tileston street, addition to Ware School site; Eutaw street, addition to the Chapman School site; West Fourth street, addition to the Bigelow School site; East Fourth street, L street, and Emerson street, addition to Primary School site; South street, corner of Farquhar street, addition to Longfellow School site. Plans have been made for the Park Department of a playground at East Boston, bounded by Cottage street, Gove street and Lubec street, and of addition, extending the same to Frankfort street; also of the Forest Hills playground on Washington street, at West Roxbury. Plans made of other public property include a bath-house lot on North Bennet street, and the city wharf on Medford street at Charlestown. As a result of the perambulation of the boundary line in 1901, additional stone monuments have been set upon the lines between Boston and Newton, upon the Boston and Brookline line, and upon the line between Boston and Hyde Park, all of which were ordered by the Attorney-General. In connection with the Surveying Division there have been 1,733 titles examined, 1,546 deeds and 261 plans copied from the Registry of Deeds.
