14 Où ayant trouvé des frères, ils nous prièrent de demeurer avec eux sept jours: et ensuite nous partîmes pour Rome.

15 Et les frères qui y étoient, ayant appris de nos nouvelles, vinrent au-devant de nous jusqu'au marché d'Appius, et aux trois-hôtelleries; et Paul les voyant, rendit graces à Dieu, et prit courage.

16 Quand nous fumes arrivés à Rome, le centenier mit les prisonniers entre les mains du préfet du prétoire; mais à l'égard de Paul, il lui permit de demeurer en son particulier, avec un soldat qui le gardoit.

17 Trois jours après, Paul assembla les principaux des Juifs; et quand ils furent venus, il leur dit: Mes frères, quoique je n'eusse rien commis contre le peuple, ni contre les coutumes de nos pères, toutefois j'ai été fait prisonnier à Jérusalem, et mis entre les mains des Romains;

15 And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum, and the Three Taverns, whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

16 And when we came Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself, with a soldier that kept him.

17 And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans:

21 Et ils lui répondirent: Nous n'avons point reçu de lettres de Judée sur ton sujet, et il n'est venu aucun de nos frères qui ait rapporté ou dit aucun mal de toi.

22 Néanmoins nous voudrions bien apprendre de toi quels sont tes sentimens; car à l'égard de cette secte, nous savons qu'on s'y oppose par-tout.

23 Lui ayant assigné un jour, plusieurs vinrent le trouver dans son logis; et depuis le matin jusqu'au soir il leur annonçoit le règne de Dieu, confirmant ce qu'il disoit par divers témoignages, et tâchant de leur persuader, par la loi de Moïse et par les phètes, ce qui regarde Jésus.

24 Les uns furent persuadés de ce qu'il disoit; mais les autres ne crurent point.

25 Et comme ils n'étoient pas d'accord entre eux, ils se retirèrent, après que Paul leur eut dit cette parole: C'est avec raison que le Saint-Esprit a parlé à nos pères, par Esaïe le prophète, et a

dit:

26 Va vers ce peuple, et dislui: Vous écouterez de vos oreilles, et vous n'entendrez point: et en voyant vous verrez, et vous n'appercevrez point.

27 Car le cœur de ce peuple est appesanti; ils ont oui dur

21 And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word; Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

26 Saying, Go unto this people; and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive;

27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are

Grace to you, and from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
