Monday 24, About eleven o'clock this morning, a German came to the chambers of Mr. Cator, Attorney in Lincoln's-inn, under pretence of business; and, after telling a long ftory of his diftreffes, he prevailed on Mr. Cator to give him a fmall fum of money; Mr. Cator being engaged, fignifed that he was going out, and, having no Clerk in his chambers, that he propofed to lock the door after him. While he was turning about to take his hat, the grateful German knocked him down, and afterwards repeated bis blows with fo much violence, that he concluded Mr. Cator was dead, and began to rifle the chambers. While the villain was thus employed, Mr. Cator recovered, and had ftrength enough to rife and open the window before he was perceived, and calling out, foon raifed the Inn, whereby the villain was fecured, though he had got down tairs, and almoft out of the Inn before he was taken. Mifs Woodward, at whofe father's houfe the fire broke out, threw herself from the top of the leads, and was fo much bruifed that the foon died in great agonies.
