AN ACT to provide for the purchase of four hundred copies of
Webster's Dictionary, unabridged.

AN ACT to amend section three of chapter one hundred and sixty-nine of the general laws of 1868, entitled "an act creating a state board of examiners to issue state certificates of high grade to teachers of eminent qualifications."

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section three of chapter one hundred and sixty-nine of the general laws of 1868, entitled "an act creating a state board of examiners to issue state certificates of high grade to teachers of eminent qualRequirements ifications," is amended to read as follows: If the exam. for certificates iners shall be satisfied that an applicant possesses the requisite scholarship in all the branches of the studies before mentioned, or in the branches of study in which applicants are now required to be examined by county superintendents for a first grade certificate, and in the branches hereinafter mentioned, they shall certify the fact to the state superintendent, and if such applicant shall furnish evidence of good moral character, experience and success in teaching, he shall thereupon issue to the applicant passing a succesful examination in all the branches of the studies above mentioned, a certificate, which shall be valid until revoked; and to the applicant passing a successful examination in the studies now required for a first grade certificate as heretofore described, and in mental philosophy and English literature, he shall issue a certificate, which shall be in force for five years from the date thereof; and either of said certificates shall qualify the holder to teach in any public school in any city, town or school district of this state, without any further examination by a city or county superintendent or board whatsoever.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage. Approved March 5, 1872.

CHAPTER 34.

AN ACT to repeal chapter fifty-one of the general laws of 1871, entitled "an act to amend chapter one hundred and twenty-one of the revised statutes, entitled of jurisdiction of justices of the peace in criminal cases, and proceedings therein.'

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter fifty-one of the general laws Repealed. of 1871, entitled "an act to amend chapter one hundred and twenty-one of the revised statutes," is hereby repealed.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage. Approved March 5, 1872.

CHAPTER 35.

[Published March 8, 1872.]

AN ACT to authorize the distribution of certain documents and
publications to the State University and normal schools.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate
and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The secretary of state is hereby authorized and directed to forward annually to the State University and each of the state normal schools for the use of their libraries, one copy each of all volumes of local and general laws, legislative journals, reports of departments and institutions, legislative manuals and other documents published by authority of the state; and also one copy each of all such publications heretofore issued, of which there are surplus copies, and one copy of Taylor's compilation of the statutes of Wisconsin.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 36.

of exceptions.

AN ACT to amend sections 13 and 16, chapter 264, laws of 1860, concerning appeals, writs of error, and proceedings thereon.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 13 of chapter 264 of the general laws of 1860, is amended by adding thereto the May amend bill following: When issues of fact shall be tried by the court, and a bill of exceptions thereafter served, the party on whom such bill shall be served may, within ten days after such service, file exceptions to the findings of fact, and serve the same as amendments to the bill of exceptions, and the same shall, at his request, be incorporated into such bill of exceptions.

SECTION 2. Section 16 of chapter 264, aforesaid, is hereby amended by adding thereto the words, "by either party."

SECTION 3. This act shall apply to all cases now pending in any court of this state, and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication, and all acts and parts of acts conflicting with the provisions of this act are hereby repealed. And in all cases tried before this act shall take effect, no exceptions shall be required to be filed by the respondent, to entitle him to a review of the findings of fact on appeal.

CHAPTER 37.

AN ACT to exempt certain property therein named from attachment or sale on execution.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. All books, maps, plats and other pa- Abstract books, pers kept or used by any person or persons of this state, for the purpose of making abstracts of title to land, shall hereafter be exempt from attachment or execution: provided, that when the net receipts, earnings or profits of the owner or owners of such abstracts of title derived from the use thereof, or labor in connection therewith, over and above the expenses of maintaining such abstracts of title, and the disbursements for such use and labor shall exceed one thousand dollars per annum, such excess shall be subject to the claims of creditors.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication. Approved March 6, 1872.

CHAPTER 38.

AN ACT to amend chapter 170 of the general laws of 1867, entled" an act to facilitate the recovery of judgments."

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section one of chapter one hundred Amended. and seventy of the general laws of 1867, entitled "an act to facilitate the recovery of judgments," is hereby amended so as to read as follows: Section 1.
