At a meeting of the Board of Commissioners on the Sinking Funds, for the payment or redemption of the city debt, it was Voted, To request the Auditor of Accounts to ask for an appropriation from the City Council, of $2,500, to defray the expenses of this board for the financial year 1871–72.

DEAR SIR,It is estimated by the Committee on Streets, that there will be required in the settlement of unliquidated claims from laying out and widening streets, for the financial year ending April 30, 1872, the sum of sixty-five thousand ($65,000) dollars.

Widening Streets have estimated the expenses of their department for the financial year 1871-72 as follows:

For local improvements not provided for by

special loans, and also for expenses in making estimates, etc.

It is provided in the ordinance on finance, that all receipts on account of assessments for benefit from the improvement of streets, shall be paid into the sinking fund for the redemption of the city debt. The income of this department cannot, therefore, be taken into the account in making up the appropriation.
