SIMPLE RESOLUTION.

By Senator Terrell of Wise: Resolved, That 600 copies of the Senate Journal be printed each day, 150 of which shall be for the use of the House of Representatives, and shall be delivered to the Sergeant-atArms of that body by the printers, one copy to the Governor and one to each of the heads of departments, and the remainder to be prorated among the members of the Senate. The resolution was read and adopted.

Sirs: Your Joint Committee, appointed to make arrangements to count the vote and arrange for the inauguration of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, beg leave to recommend that the House and Senate meet in joint session in the Hall of the House of Representatives on Friday, the 13th of January, A. D. 1911, at 11 o'clock a. m., for the purpose of counting said votes, and that the House and Senate shall sit in joint session in the Hall of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, the 17th day of January, 1911, at 12 o'clock, noon, at which time the Joint Committee will escort the Governor and Lieutenant Governorelect to the Speaker's stand, and the oath of office will be administered to them by Judge T. J. Brown, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Speaker then announced that the Joint Session is now ready to receive the Governor-elect and the Lieutenant Governor-elect.

Rev. W. D. Bradfield, pastor of the First Methodist church, South, of Austin, on request of the Speaker, offered prayer.

The Speaker then announced that the two Houses were in joint session for the purpose of inaugurating the Governor-elect and the Lieutenant Governor-elect.

OATH OF OFFICE ADMINISTERED TO THE GOVERNOR.

Hon. T. J. Brown, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, was requested by the Speaker to administer the oath of office to the Governor-elect and the Lieutenant Governor-elect.

Hon. O. B. Colquitt, Governor-elect, first came forward and took the oath of office, Chief Justice Brown holding the Holy Bible in his right hand, the Governor-elect touching the same with his left hand, and holding his right hand erect.

Governor O. B. Colquitt then affixed his signature to the official oath, Chief Justice Brown attesting same with the Great Seal of the Commonwealth of Texas.

Hon. T. M. Campbell, being presented to the Joint Session by Hon. Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House, presented Hon. O. B. Colquitt to the Joint Session and the assemblage.

Governor Campbell said:

Gentlemen of the Legislature, Fellow Citizens and Ladies and Gentlemen.

In presenting to you my successor, the Chief Executive of this State, I hope and bespeak for him the co

Hon. Claude Hudspeth, President Pro Tem. of the Senate, then presented Lieutenant Governor Davidson who addressed the Joint Session and the assemblage.

I deeply appreciate the honor and distinction that the people of Texas have conferred upon me. In taking the oath of office which has just been administered to me, I realize fully the responsibility which the obligation carries with it. I want to say that I have taken that oath of office four times before, and I challenge any citizen of Texas today to say that I have not observed faithfully Chief Justice Brown then adminisits injunctions and responsibilities. I want to see the hearts of the people of Texas so educated and trained that all of its citizenship can live up to the injunction of the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If the members of the Legislature and the citizenship of Texas will meet me half way upon this great and grand principle, we will not only have a season of legislative rest, but we will have an era of political peace, prosperity and development in this State that we have never had before.

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Texas, the House of Representatives concurring: That the following application to the Congress of the United States of America, applying to Congress to provide for the calling of a convention to propose an amendment to Section 3, of Article 1, of the Constitution of the United States, so that the United States Senators from each State shall be elected by the direct vote of the qualified electors in each State, be and same is hereby adopted.
