OFFICE OF THE WATER COMMISSIONER, BosTon, December 17, 1900. HON. THOMAs N. HART, Mayor of the City of Boston: SIR, - I submit herewith estimate of the receipts and expenditures of the Water Department for the fiscal year 1901– 1902: ESTIMATED RECEEPTS Income from sale of water . e e $2,226,000 00 Income from other sources . G * 50,000 00 Total . to e e to e $2,276,000 00 ESTIMATED EXPENDITURES. Office, including engineering, taxes, trav elling expenses, etc. e * > e $52,600 00 Income Division, including meter and water inspection services - 121,800 00 Distribution Division: Maintenance so . $276,400 00 **s smos osmosoms asso 685,600 00 Total . & g * to e $860,000 00 This estimate is made on the basis of the expenditures of the department during the past year. The only contingency that I can foresee at the present time is the possible necessity for laying an additional 48-inch main from Chestnut Hill Reservoir to Boylston street, Brookline, at an estimated expense of about $60,000. This main may be found necessary, too, on account of the additional head which is to be added to the low service distribution from the new Chestnut Hill pumping-station. The present line, while it proved to be safe for the former low service head, has failed six times since the additional head has been in use, and it may, therefore, be necessary to use this main as a reserve only, I do not know of any other extraordinary expenditure that will be liable to fall upon the department during the coming year. Respectfully submitted, Water Commissioner. |
