During the past year, the Lowell Institute, through the Curator, Professor William T. Sedgwick, has furnished for publication in the Bulletin selected lists of works illustrative of the lectures in course of delivery before the Institute. In every case the lecturer has made the list himself, and it has then been put into shape with no expense to the Library. These lists, though brief, and certainly in no case exhaustive, have a certain stamp of authority which they would fail to have if they emanated solely from the Library. They are as follows: The Parthenon, by Mr. Edward Robinson; The expansion of Russia, by Professor Archibald Cary Coolidge; American literature in the Nineteenth Century, by Colonel Thomas Wentworth Higginson ; Some problems of modern physiology, by Dr. Henry Pickering Bowditch; Great Englishmen of the Sixteenth Century, by Sidney Lee, Litt.D., of London.
