SIR, - In accordance with section 24, chapter 3, of the Revised Ordinances of 1898, I beg to submit the following as the annual report of the Public Buildings Department for the year ending January 31, 1903 :

This department has the care and custody of the Ambulance Station, South Boston, of all buildings in use for city offices, market purposes, halls for public meetings, and the several county buildings; also, hired buildings or parts of the same for city offices, county courts, ward-rooms, and armories; also, contracts for and supplies fuel for all departments of the city and county not otherwise provided for ; this includes the Police, Fire, Park, Health, Bath, Public Buildings, Library, Public Grounds, Cemetery, and Market Departments, the Street Department, and Paving, Sanitary, Street Cleaning, Sewer, and Bridge Divisions of the same, and the Quarantine Station at Gallop’s Island; also, the police and fire-boats. Requisitions are made by each department as needed, the quantity and quality is weighed and inspected, and certified to by an employee of this department.
