DEATHs. - RESIDENTS OF BosTON. (TABLE III.)

Seaces and Age-Periods. – There were 9,900 deaths recorded of residents of Boston; there were 5,038 males and 4,862 females. The whole number of deaths under 1 year of age was 2,081, which was 21.02 per cent. of the total mortality of the residents of Boston. As to sex, there were 1,126 males and 955 females; the males were 22.35 per cent. of the total mortality of male residents, and the females were 19.64 per cent. of the total mortality of female residents. The whole number of decedents under 5 years of age was 3,102, or 31.33 per cent. of the total mortality of residents, showing that nearly one-third of the deaths in Boston are of children 5 years of age or less; there were 1,648 males, or 32.71 per cent. of the total mortality of male residents, and 1,454 females, or 29.90 per cent. of the total mortality of female residents. The whole number of deaths of residents between the ages of 20 and 70 years was 5,060, or 51.11 per cent. of the total mortality of residents of Boston; there were 2,663 males, or 52.85 per cent. of the total mortality of male residents, and 2,397 females, or 49.3 per cent. of the total mortality of female residents of Boston. The number of decedents of 70 years or more was 1,273, or 12.85 per cent. of the total mortality; there were 528 males and 745 females, the males being 10.48 per cent., and the females 15.32 per cent., of the total mortality of residents of Boston, males and females respectively. The greatest number of deaths of residents in any 5-year period was 581, in the 60 to 65 year period.

DEATHS OF NON-RESIDENTs.

The number of persons who died in Boston that resided elsewhere was 853, or 7.75 per cent. of the whole number of deaths recorded ; there were 499 males and 354 females ; 86, or about 10 per cent., were less than 1 year of age; the greatest number of these deaths for any 5-year age-period was 152, at 5 years or less.

The deaths of non-residents in Boston were 33 less than the number for 1901.

DEATHS. — RESIDENCE UNKNOWN.

The deaths recorded with residence unknown were 244 in number, or 67 less than in 1901; of these, 131 were males and 113 females; 122, or 50 per cent., were less than 5 years of age; the greatest number in any adult age-period (5-year) was 16, in the 40 to 45 year period.
