American Brides and Foreign Grooms.

There were 682 American-born brides (including Boston) who married men of foreign birth. Of these grooms 80 were born in Ireland, 284 in the British-American provinces, 125 in Great Britain, 38 in Germany, 55 in Italy, 31 in Russia, 24 in Norway and Sweden, 6 in France, 1 in Turkey, 5 in Austria, 6 in Portugal, 2 in Hokland, 1 in Switzerland, 4 in Denmark, 6 in Cuba and the West Indies, and 14 in other countries not specified in the table.

There were in all, 3,073 grooms of American birth, or 49.77 per cent. ; this was 134 less than in 1901. There were 2,992 brides of American birth, or 48.46 per cent. ; this was 14 less than in 1901.

The number of marriages in which both parties were American born was 2,310, or 37.41 per cent. ; the number was 57 less than in 1901.

Marriages Between Watives of the Same (Foreign) Country.

The figures in large type diagonally arranged across the table represent the number of marriages in which both parties were of the same nativity. Six hundred and twenty-one gooms were born in Ireland, and 497 married brides born in Ireland, or 80.03 per cent. Seven hundred and seventy-four grooms were born in the British-American provinces, and 396 married brides of the same nativity, or 51.42 per cent. Two hundred and forty-five grooms were born in Great Britain, and 48 married brides of the same nativity, or 19.59 per cent. One hundred and seventeen grooms were born in Germany, and 55 married brides of the same nativity, or 47 per cent. Four hundred and ninety-three grooms were born in Italy, and 419 married brides of the same nativity, or 85 per cent. Four hundred and forty-two grooms were born in Russia, and 376 married natives of the same country, or 85.06 per cent. Two hundred and four grooms were born in Norway or Sweden, and 155 married natives of the same countries, or 75.98 per cent. Fourteen grooms were born in France, and but 1 married a native of the same country, or 7 per cent. Sixteen grooms were born in Turkey, and 14 married natives of the same country, or 87.5 per cent. Forty-five grooms were born in Austria, and 26 married natives of the same country, or 57.7 per cent. Eighteen grooms were born in Portugal, and 8 married natives of the same country, or 44.44 per cent. Five grooms were born in Holland, and 2 married natives of the same country, or 40 per cent. Nine grooms were born in Belgium, and 5 married natives of

Eight grooms were born in Switzerland, and 4 married natives of the same country, or 50 per cent.

Two grooms were born in Greece, and 1 married a native of that country, or 50 per cent.

Twenty-one grooms were born in Denmark, and 10 married natives of that country, or 47.6 per cent.

Ten grooms were born in Cuba and the West Indies, and 1 married a native of the West India Islands, or 10 per cent.

Fifty-five grooms were born in countries not specified in the table, and 22 married natives of countries not specified in the table, or 40 per cent.

NUMBER OF MARRIAGE. (TABLE XVIII.)

There were 5,408 grooms and 5,451 brides who married for the first time; it was the second marriage of 570 grooms and 502 brides, the brides and all the grooms but 4 being widowed, and of those 4 no statement was made as to whether they were married or divorced. It was the second marriage of 144 divorced grooms and 191 divorced brides, and the third marriage of 50 grooms and 23 brides, 36 of the grooms being widowers and 14 divorced, and Of the brides 17 were widows and 6 were divorced. There were 2 widows married for the fourth time. Of the 5,408 grooms married for the first time, the brides of 4,996 were also married for the first time, the brides of 287 were widows marrying the second time, 4 were widows whose third marriage it was, 116 brides were divorced and marrying the second time, and 4 were divorced and marrying the third time. Of the 570 widowed grooms (including the 4*) marrying the second time, 360 married brides whose first marriage it was, 166 married widows whose second marriage it was, 8 married widows who were marrying for the third time, 1 married a widow whose fourth marriage it was, 32 married divorced brides whose second marriage it was, and 1 married a divorced bride whose third marriage it was.

Of the 36 widowers marrying the third time, 12 had brides whose first marriage it was, the brides of 19 were widows whose second marriage it was, 2 married widows whose third marriage it was, 2 married divorced brides whose second marriage it was, and 1 married a divorced bride whose third marriage it was.

Of the 144 divorced grooms marrying the second time, 76 married women who had not previously been married, 26 married widows whose second marriage it was, 3 married widows whose third marriage it was, and 39 married divorced brides whose second marriage it was.

Of the 14 divorced grooms who were married the third time, the brides of 7 had not previously been married, of 4 the brides were widows whose second marriage it was, 1 married a widow whose fourth marriage it was, and 2 married divorced brides whose second marriage it was.

Marriages of Divorced Persons.

There were 144 divorced grooms and 191 divorced brides married for the second time, and 14 divorced grooms and 6 divorced brides married for the third time; or 355 divorced persons were married in Boston in 1902.

Marriage of Divorced Persons Percentage.

The divorced persons of both sexes married in 1902 were 355, or 3.07 per cent. Of all. There were 41 cases of marriage where both parties had been divorced, 158 cases where the grooms had been divorced, and 197 cases where the brides had been divorced, including the 41 cases previously quoted.
