To his Honor the Mayor, and Aldermen of the City of Boston:

GENTLEMEN, — The undersigned respectfully submits the following report from March 31, 1869, to March 31, 1870, inclusive:

The milk trade of Boston is divided into two branches, for which separate sets of books are kept at the office of the Inspector.

Wholesale dealers are those who distribute to families, stores, etc., from carriages, and those persons who keep more than one cow, in the city proper, Boston Highlands, South and East Boston.

Retail dealers are those who sell in small quantities from market places, stores, shops, and cellars.

The dealers in the Sixteenth Ward (Dorchester) have not been registered, and are not included in this report.
