57 When the "even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathæa, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre : 62¶ Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the Chief Priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that 'deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathæa, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. LUKE, Xxiii. 50: Behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just. JOHN, xix. 38: After this Joseph of Arimathæa, (being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus and Pilate gave him leave: he came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him :

I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction; repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. JOHN, v. 25, 28: Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming; in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice.

CHAP. XXVIII.

CHAP. XXVIII.

MARK, xvi. 1: When the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

3 His countenance3 was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

6 He is not here: for he is risen, 'as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. LUKE, xxiv. 1: Upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. JOHN, xx. 1: The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
